One practical restriction applies during this window: high-impact loading — running, jumping, or heavy leg work — should be avoided for at least the first 24–48 hours. Light walking is generally fine from the outset; the aim is simply to give the gel enough time to settle before it faces significant mechanical stress.

Who is not suitable for ChondroFiller injection

Absolute contraindications — situations in which ChondroFiller should not be used — include:

  • Active joint or systemic infection at the time of the proposed injection
  • Known hypersensitivity to mouse-derived proteins or collagen
  • Untreated or unmanageable bleeding disorders, including anticoagulant therapy that cannot be safely paused
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Advanced diffuse osteoarthritis defines a separate suitability boundary. ChondroFiller is an injectable scaffold designed for focal cartilage defects within mechanically stable joints. It is not indicated for end-stage, bone-on-bone degeneration (Kellgren-Lawrence Grade IV). A prospective hip arthroscopy cohort following 26 patients over 12 to 60 months found that those with pre-existing Tönnis grade 2–3 osteoarthritis had poor outcomes — while 17 of 21 appropriately selected patients achieved good or excellent results. That contrast makes the principle concrete: patient selection drives outcome as much as the product itself.

Suitability for ChondroFiller cannot be determined from an article or a checklist. Patients with widespread joint degeneration, a relevant medical history, or any of the factors above need a clinical assessment to establish whether this pathway is appropriate — and that assessment is the starting point, not a formality that follows a self-referral decision.
